Dr. Kyle Wells was born and raised in Topeka, Kansas, and graduated from Emporia State University with a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science degree. He then attended four years of medical school at the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Kansas City. After medical school, he moved to Wichita, Kansas, to complete a three-year residency in the Via Christi Family Medicine Residency Program.

From newborns to the elderly, Dr. Wells finds true joy in caring for patients of all ages. While he enjoys treating all types of health conditions, he is especially interested in sports medicine and chronic disease prevention. He values getting to know his patients and is excited to connect with the community.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Wells is a proud husband and father, which are the two titles he cherishes most. His hobbies include spending time with friends and family, traveling, playing recreational sports, trying new foods, and enjoying a good cup of coffee.

Oswaldo C. Bacani, MD is a general surgeon with over forty years of experience practicing in his home community of Fredonia, Kansas. During his career, he has performed appendectomies, gallbladder removals, splenectomies, trauma surgeries, orthopedic surgeries, mastectomies, cesarean sections, colectomies, and hysterectomies (a partial list) at Fredonia Regional Hospital (FRH). He provides outpatient care at Fredonia Family Care Clinic each day and continues to provide endoscopy and major and minor surgical services in the hospital. Dr. Bacani has been the Emergency Room Medical Director and Chief of Surgery at FRH for over thirty years.

Dr. Bacani was born in the province of Pampanga, Philippines and received elementary and high school instruction from Dominican priests. He then attended college at the University of the Philippines. He received his medical degree from the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center in Manila, Philippines. He completed 2 years of residency training in an eye, ear, nose, and throat program at the University of the East before being invited to join a general surgery residency in McKeesport, Pennsylvania where he eventually served as chief resident.

In 1978, Dr. Bacani moved with his wife Andrea and sons Michael and Dodie to Fredonia, Kansas. Dr. and Mrs. Bacani later added two daughters to their family — Jennifer and Angelica. In 2009, his daughter Jennifer joined him in practice at Fredonia Family Care Clinic.

K. Allen Greiner, MD, MPH is currently Professor and Vice Chair of the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC) in Kansas City, Kansas. He completed an undergraduate degree in Anthropology from Brown University and medical school and a Family Medicine residency at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City. He is a practicing family physician and is the Health Officer for the Kansas City, Kansas, Wyandotte County Unified Government Health Department.

He has received numerous academic and community awards and since 2002 he has been one of two primary faculty advisors to the Jaydoc Free Clinic, a medical student run clinic for the uninsured in Kansas City. He directs the Kansas Patients and Providers Engaged in Prevention Research (KPPEPR) Network. This primary care practice-based research network serves as an important research laboratory for health studies and projects in rural and urban safety-net clinics across the state of Kansas. Over the last decade the KPPEPR Network has been the primary recruitment setting for multiple National Institutes of Health (NIH) R01 intervention studies and Patient Centered Outcomes Institute (PCORI) funded trials. Dr. Greiner has been funded by the NIH continuously for over 15 years and is nationally recognized for his work studying promotion of colorectal cancer screening through behavioral health interventions. For the last ten years he has directed or co-directed the community engagement program for Frontiers, KUMC’s Clinical Translational Science Institute.

Through this program he leads efforts to expand community-based research and to assure a strong infrastructure and community input into KUMC’s bioscience activities. His future plans include expanding public health and health equity policy work as well as research activities in cancer control, health information technology, health behaviors, and the social determinants of health.

Laura Ratzlaff is a Registered Nurse with 13 years of experience in the healthcare industry. She received an Associate Degree in Nursing from Mary Grimes School of Nursing and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Capella University. Laura started her career as a medical assistant and joined the team at Fredonia Family Care in 2013 as a medical scribe. She has since evolved her role to include outpatient surgery and aesthetics.

A Chicago suburb native, Laura moved to Fredonia in 2012 with her husband, who grew up in Fredonia. They have three beautiful children together, Hudson, Grady, and Brooks.

Ashley J. Houser, DO, is a family physician at Fredonia Family Care and Fredonia Regional Hospital. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and practiced as a Registered Nurse for four years before attending medical school at Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine in Tennessee. She then completed three years of residency at Via Christi Family Medicine Residency in Wichita, Kansas.

Since finishing her training, she has been practicing rural medicine in Fredonia and served as Chief Medical Officer at Fredonia Hospital for two years starting in 2020. She provides outpatient and inpatient care, emergency services, women’s health, and aesthetic procedures to her patients.

Dr. Houser is married to Brittan Houser, and they have one little boy named Knox. Dr. Houser enjoys running, doing Peloton workouts, reading, and playing the piano in her free time.

Kay Caniglia has served Southeast Kansas as a dental hygienist for over two decades. She’s passionate about working as a dental hygienist and in aesthetics because it allows her to meet a variety of people who become wonderful friends.

Kay and her husband, Chris, live in rural Fredonia with their German Shepard, Shy, and a cat named Flossy. She loves being outside and enjoying the beautiful countryside any time she can.

Lacey Spohn, APRN, has over 18 years of nursing experience. She was born and raised in Fredonia and began practicing as a nurse practitioner in her hometown in 2017. Lacey attended Neosho County Community College Mary Grimes School of Nursing and graduated in 2003. She served southeast Kansas as a Registered Nurse for nine years before earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Oklahoma Wesleyan University in 2012 and her Master of Science in Nursing from Walden University to become an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in Family Practice in 2017. She is certified by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.

When asked why she chose healthcare, she stated, “Taking care of people has been my calling since I was a teenager. It is my passion and my purpose.”

“This is where I was raised, where I live, and I was so happy to get the opportunity to work in my hometown and take care of my community members who took care of me growing up,” said Lacey of her deep love for her community.

Lacey is married to Ryan Spohn, and they have three teenage daughters; Toryn, Vaylin, and Kacyn. Lacey has many hobbies, including golfing, playing the ukulele, volunteering, clay trap shooting, canning, and reading.

Jennifer Bacani McKenney, MD, FAAFP, is a family physician in her hometown of Fredonia, Kansas, a rural community of approximately 2,500 people. She has owned and managed Fredonia Family Care alongside her father since 2009 and was named the 2021 Rural Health Practitioner of the Year by the National Rural Health Association. She received her undergraduate degree in Chemistry from the University of Kansas, her medical degree at the University of Kansas Medical Center and completed her residency at Via Christi Family Medicine Residency in Wichita.

Dr. McKenney believes in helping others achieve their personal beauty and wellness goals by providing outpatient, inpatient, emergency, surgical, and endoscopic services to her community. She is on the medical staff at Fredonia Regional Hospital, a 25-bed critical access hospital. She serves as the Wilson County health officer and has made numerous recent appearances on national news and television programs covering COVID-19 and rural health, including CBS, CNBC, CNN, MSNBC, the New York Times, Washington Post, and NPR.

She is the proud mother of her daughter Millie and her son Sidney. She enjoys fly fishing, golfing, snow skiing, cooking, trying new foods, and traveling in her free time.
